Little Red Thread
by Bill Zischang

The little red thread dangles
from everywhere you look.
The crepe paper tails,
and bamboo skeletons,
the skins of kites, and wishes
that became tangled
in the many "real things"
which complicate
the dreams of children.
But!, through it all,
flew a magical bird.
A creature born of tissue and glue.
The Gypsy!
A kite of small and simple design
that would fly
when nothing else could.
And the little kite flew
a thousand days, and more,
at the hands of E.W. Redmond-
The Kite Gypsy!
World Record Holder,
and the best kind of friend
anyone could hope for.
Let this be his legacy.
That we all can reach
a little higher now,
for having known him.

He lifted us by our strings,
and introduced us to the sky...
